La Mano — the Hand — was born of a creative exchange of letters between Gio Ponti and silversmith Lino Sabattini, where in a simple sketch of a hand by Ponti was answered by a silver hand sculpture by Sabattini.
Formed from a single curved, stainless-steel sheet, this six-fingered hand captures Gio Ponti’s signature sense of irony and creative depth. Simultaneously whimsical and functional, the piece doubles as a sculptural statement and a jewelry holder. A celebration of craftsmanship and creative synergy, La Mano reaffirms Ponti’s belief that art is the most enduring element of design.

In order to maintain the aesthetic characteristics of these finishes over time and avoid rust, regular, methodical and meticulous cleaning is necessary. For everyday maintenance, dust with a soft dry cloth. For greasy oily marks (fingerprints) we advise cleaning the surfaces with normal liquid detergents for glass. Products containing solvents and/or alcohol and hard fibre cloths (linen and synthetics) should be avoided, as they could ruin and/or scratch surfaces. Require monthly maintenance with specific metal cleaning/polishing products.

La Manoは、ジオ・ポンティと銀細工師リノ・サッバティーニとの遊び心あふれる書簡のやり取りから生まれました。ポンティが描いた6本指の手のスケッチに応えてサッバティーニが作ったこのオブジェは、冗談から始まりながらも、やがてポンティの最も愛される作品のひとつとなりました。アイコニックでありながら意外性を備えたLa Manoは、彼の奔放な精神と唯一無二の個性を体現しています。
